On the origin of cascades - on the history of CSS
Hidde de Vries
This talk explores how CSS has evolved over the last 25 years by comparing it to evolutionary theory. Using ideas from Darwin like adaptation and selection, it looks at how CSS emerged, survived competing ideas, and adapted to a changing web. The core argument is that CSS lasts because it is flexible and because people adapt it to their needs rather than using it one single way.
