Introduction

Tools like Figma are really powerful and feature rich. But how many things do you really need to know about to get something really polished?

What are the concepts? What is their order of importance for practical use? How would you break it down and teach someone?

Figma is pretty fun! You know that @sheriffderek would probably rather just draw it on paper and get right to the code… but you can get paid a lot of money for maintaining Figma files. And it’s a good way to learn about design systems and to see how HTML and CSS can be structured from this other perspective. It’ll probably make your code better if you can get a handle on this.

Here’s a screenshot. You might like to use a different program. Who knows, maybe by the time you see this – we’ll have lost another great program an a new even more free-er offering.

Also, remember: like all of our exercises – these are just games. You can find ANY component of any complexity and practice emulating it. But we think this one covers a few of the key cases.

How would you organize the need-to-know concepts and techniques here?

We might give you our list… but we’re more curious what you think. How would you break this down and teach it to someone? What are the most important practical things you need to know? Even better – teach someone and write down the order as you go!
