FTP stands for “File Transfer Protocol.” What is a protocol? It’s just a set of rules. Rules for what? Transferring files!

You’ll need to take the files you create on your personal computer and move them to another computer (that is public) so that everyone can ask for your HTML documents and images. FTP is the way we move files between computers over the internet.

There are much better ways to do this now, but you’ll find that you still need to use FTP often. So, get very comfortable with it.

Protocol is a whacky word. We’ll work on explaining that better.

You can move a file on your computer – from one folder to another, right? This FTP allows you to move that file to a folder on another computer far away. Seems simple nowadays – (since we can send files in so many ways with our phones).
