What language should I learn first?

For most people, the question is a distraction. Pick the language closest to what you want to build and start. HTML and CSS if you want to build for the web. JavaScript after that. Other languages come in depending on what you’re aiming at — backend work, data, systems, whatever it is. The worst move is spending three months researching “which language first” before writing a single line. The real learning starts once you’re building something.
