Choose your own HTML adventure

Last updated: June 1, 2026

Introduction

Games don’t have to be complex – to be fun.

Here’s a fun way to practice your file system knowledge and links. Try out some subfolders as a bonus.

Don’t buy this book (because it is outdated / and we’ll cover all this for the people who are interested) — But Andy is a great teacher — and he has people start building games with just HTML and hyperlinks.

Planning

The Code

You know about the file system. You know about file types. You know how to create HTML files. You know how to create Hyperlinks between them.

So, – can you create a choose your own adventure game, with just HTML?

Space and Beyond, Choose Your Own Adventure #3

Maybe keep it to 5 or 6 decisions at first… 😉

If you’re around for the later Server-side or JavaScript workshops, you might explore a much fancier data-driven choose-your-own-adventure game.

This exercise (now) is about getting repetitions with HTML hyperlinks and clarity on file paths. You may as well just learn them really well now and get them out of the way!

A few student examples

  2. Choosing a “coding” school (milestone example)
