Alpha four Figma challenge
Hi, there. You're not logged in. So, you must be a visitor. Welcome!
What is this? You are viewing one of our supplemental "Stories." In addition to our core design curriculum, we are constantly building out additional resources. Stories are a collection of real work tasks, design history, UX explorations, and work-throughs. Stories are often off-the-cuff and less concerned with production value.
Introduction
7 students were given a Figma file and 6 days.
Here’s what happened.
Spoiler alert
(here are the winners)
But you’ll probably learn a little by watching the video?
Up to you!
Winner: Jesse
Runner up: Andy
Interestingly, Jesse was posting his work from day one and finished a few days in. So – he was open and talking about it and offering to help people with theirs. And Andy talked to Derek many times about architectural decisions. They might have been the most vocal – and maybe that leads to the more thorough work. We should ask them what their secret magic was.
Some things I meant to talk about in the video
Nowhere in the challenge – did it say that you had to do it all by yourself. As usual, we’re here to help you with any of it. If there was an SVG trick or mask or positioning – or architecture questions, an important lesson is to use your resources and ask for help.
Everyone put in varying degrees of time/focus – but either way, it should be illuminating. The outcome should help you measure where you’re at in terms of ability (currently). And with that, you can adjust to get where you want to be. Do you need to ask more questions? Do you need more practice? Are there some blind spots? Do you need to just put in more time? How do you feel about “making websites?” This should give you a pretty clear idea of what writing the HTML and CSS / and planning out the bigger picture architecture could be like at a real job. If that’s exciting, then it’ll help you choose your aim. It could be the code – or the scale that intrigues you. You might find that it’s not that exciting. And if that’s the case – then it can help you clarify which parts you are interested in.
Would it help if I recorded a speed run of this challenge?
I’ll do it, but If the points are made in your process already – then we don’t need more videos for the sake of it. You lemme know.
